Shipboard Easter dinner
Yeah, hi, how have you been?!

One would think with all the time I have on my hands, I'd update a little more often. The only problem is that my life is pretty bland. There isn't a whole lot to write about -- but you know, that's pretty much the way I like it.

Yesterday I got a box from QVC in the mail, and I was completely confused because I hadn't ordered anything in a while. Well, I hadn't in the last couple of days. :o) I need help, people. But anyhow, so this mystery box... I tore it open with great speed to find... earrings my husband purchased for me on the sly!!! And you want to know why he purchased said earrings?! "Just because," he says.

HUGE grin.

They're three-stone Diamonique earrings with a lever back, Diamonique being the QVC brand of artificial diamonds. But let me tell ya, they look real. And they're GORGEOUS. What I love about them is they're lever backs, so they're secure in my ear, and they're just a little dangly, just the perfect length of dangle for me. I love them!

My hubby loves me.

Now I just need a couple new pairs of stud earrings for my second hole. Between Kurt and my lovely sister Michele I have plenty of earrings for my first hole!

So how was your Easter? I thought I was going to have to spend it alone, but fortunately I didn't. I was invited to two different people's homes for food since Kurt had duty, but instead of hanging out with them, I went to the ship and ate Easter dinner there. Granted, the food wasn't as good as if I had taken advantage of my friends' invitations, but you know... It wasn't bad either. We had fried chicken (yum yum!), ham (without ham gravy), mashed potatoes and gravy, stuffing, mixed veggies (which looked scary and overcooked), and salad. I made sure to thank the Culinary Specialist in charge of cooking Easter dinner, which he apparently was really pleased about since he mentioned it to Kurt yesterday.

Plus it was fun to see the ship. Boy, is it TINY! Kurt's last ship was the USS Bridge, which is a supply ship and as such, quite large. It has to be, in order to carry all the supplies for all the smaller ships. Getting from point A to point B on the ship could take a while, and also could involve many trips up and down ladders, which doesn't sit well with my fear of heights. Just getting onto the Bridge could set my heart racing, since the ramp to get onto the ship was usually tilted at a frightening angle.

The USS Rodney M. Davis, Kurt's current ship, is much, much smaller. It's a frigate, built simply to protect the carriers from torpedos. There were 700 crew (male and female) on the Bridge... there are just over 200 (all male except one female officer) on the Davis. Seeing the entirety of the ship took less than ten minutes. I'm just glad that Kurt isn't stationed on a carrier. It was pretty neat to walk through the ship and be introduced to everyone who walked by since Kurt knows them. If he were on a carrier, he wouldn't know more than a small fraction of his fellow crewmembers.

Getting to the ship was interesting. I wanted to be on the 1:40pm ferry, but knowing it was Easter, I left at 1pm because I figured it'd be a little crowded. It wasn't a little crowded; it was a LOT crowded. I ended up being on the 2:15pm ferry instead, which isn't as annoying as it sounds. Waiting for the ferry is really no big deal, partly because they run so frequently. Plus I took Grace to our local crepes shop near the ferry terminal and got a peppermint mocha. Yum yum! Living in the land of caffeine has its advantages. :o) So I thought it'd be pretty backed up on the way home. I could recall trying to get home from the Seattle side when my in-laws were here for Thanksgiving, and we had to wait an hour and a half just to get to the ferry terminal. As I was driving to the terminal, I kept expecting to get caught in ferry traffic. But I managed to be on the earliest ferry home, so I got home at 8pm. I fully expected to leave the ship at 6:30pm and then not get home till 9 or 10pm.

Now I'm sort of fighting off this bug that intends to set up residence in my body, causing a sore throat and a runny and stuffy nose. I think I just need to get back to a normal eating schedule, instead of just nibbling on things here and there and then going out to dinner. I really need to get back to cooking. I just hope I don't get any sicker than I already am.
