Miscellaneous rants
You know the Dr. Pepper commercials that say something about few things being as good as the original??

The Learning Channel needs to take that as its motto.

God, I'm so tired of them stealing shows from BBC!! First it was "Trading Spaces." If you like that show, PLEASE watch "Changing Rooms" on BBC America if you can. The problem with TS is that it's an hour long, so it takes fifteen minutes into the program before you even get into the meat of the damn makeover. CR only has 30 minutes, so within 3 minutes of the intro credits, you see the teams painting the room while discussing their chosen theme with the designers. Also, the British designers LISTEN to the teams. Well, at least most of the time. The American designers to me seem so stuck on themselves that they KNOW better than the home's owners and will run rampant over everything in that room, even if they've been told not to touch it. Granted, the CR designers have done that in the past with tragic results, but most of the time they at least try to work with the homeowners' desires. And the British designers don't think they're gods among mortals. The American designers are so stuck up that I want to smack them. Their attitude seems to be "I'm the interior designer, therefore I know all!!!" It gets tiring.

Now TLC has stolen ANOTHER show from BBC. And they even have the same name! Imagine that. "What Not to Wear." They've even pretty much stolen the intro too, where the two British fashion experts rip horribly out of fashion clothes off one another until they're naked. The Americans do a fairly similar version. But see, the British experts, Trinny and Susannah, can be really mean to the "client," but the way they do it is to break down her mental walls about her wardrobe and prove to her they can make her feel like a whole new woman if she only listens to their advice. Sometimes people only listen when you're being harsh.

The Americans again have tried to do the same and failed miserably. Again they took a 30 minute British show and turned it into an hour, and again it's a mistake. Secondly, the American experts seem to revel in being mean to the client, like "we're supposed to be mean to them on the show, so let's milk it for all it's worth!!!" They are downright rude to the poor women. Plus, one of the American experts is a gay male -- and while that makes sense since most gay men have far better fashion sense than most women, this one is just annoying. First off, he has long hair that he's CONSTANTLY flipping out of his face. He's supposed to be a fashion expert; doesn't he realize that long hair for men went out of fashion along with the hair bands?! Secondly, if I hear him say, "Hel-LOOO" one more time, I think I will go mad. You could make a drinking game out of the American "What Not to Wear" -- and get rip roaring drunk if you had to drink every time he said, "Hel-LOOOO"!!!

And the woman on the show at times looks just like a female version of that guy on Saturday Night Live that does the Goth teen routine. So how could I possibly take her seriously?! She does most of the talking, and she is really mean. Her attitude is kind of like, "I can't believe how STUPID you are that you think you look good!! God how DUMB you are!!" The British experts never attack the woman directly, only her choice of clothes.

While I'm on a rant, let me please rant about this:

WHO IN THE WORLD GAVE THE OK TO CHANGE THE NAME OF THE CHICAGO WHITE SOX'S HOME STADIUM TO U.S. CELLULAR FIELD?!

It's starting to get to me, how all the stadiums are now named after a company. I understand that it's because without the funding of that company, the stadium wouldn't get built. But it's still dumb. How do you have reverence for Bank One Ballpark (aka the Bob) the way you have reverence for Fenway Park?! It's just not the same.

Also, I don't really understand why they had to change the name. I know the park, formerly known as Comiskey, got remodeled, and I guess U.S. Cellular funded the remodel.

But the White Sox have played at Comiskey Park for 90 years or more!! First it was the old stadium, which they finally razed in the early '90s to build New Comiskey Park right next to the old building. So now ten years later it just somewhat arbitrarily goes to U.S. Cellular Park??

What's next??

No more Shea Stadium or Yankee Stadium?? The BoSox will play at Big Corporation Field instead of Fenway?? I doubt those historical teams will stand for it, and I'm pissed that the ChiSox did.

It's just WRONG.
